International Students
A message from Professor Denise Charman - Head of SchoolOur School has a 50 year history of contribution to professional education in Australia and a commitment to the advancement of knowledge and understanding in the health professions. We aim to provide quality outcomes for our international students and to ensure that our academic standards are comparable with Australian universities. Our students learning is supported by staff who have academic and professional expertise in psychology, counseling and psychotherapy. Our international students have access to excellent facilities, learning and information and support services. As an international student, you will not be the first to study at Cairnmillar. In the past, students from Turkey, Romania, New Zealand, Israel, India, Columbia and Sri Lanka have taken the opportunity to extend their professional development and training at one of Australia’s oldest schools of psychotherapy. You will join many other graduates who continue to tell us that Cairnmillar’s programs offer them something that is practical and real. Our aim is for our international students to have a positive and personal learning experience that will enhance their and contribute to a wider knowledge and understanding. Assessment Levels |
The criteria by which you are assessed when applying for a particular visa class are dependent on the country of issue as shown on the student’s passport. The assessment levels relate generally to how likely students are to comply with their visa conditions, based on previous students’ behaviour. To determine which assessment level you are depending on which country you are from and which course you are intending to apply for, please refer to DIAC form 1219i. |
Basic Requirements |
Whatever your course of study or country of citizenship, you will need to meet the following basic requirements:
For further information with respect to the health requirements please refer to DIAC form 1163i |
Applying for a visa |
Detailed instructions for applying for a student visa can be found in DIAC form 1160i |
The Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment |
The eCoE is the only accepted evidence of enrolment for processing student visa applications. Depending on your country of nationality and your principal course of study you may have to undergo a Pre-Visa Assessment (PVA) before you are issued with an eCoE. A copy of your eCoE must be submitted to your local DIAC office before a student visa can be issued. |
Pre-visa Assessment |
A Pre-Visa Assessment (PVA) determines a student's eligibility for a student visa and is necessary if your country is at Assessment Level 3 or 4. This involves obtaining a letter of offer from Cairnmillar and submitting your visa application with all supporting documentation to your local DIAC office for assessment. If the assessment is favourable, you will be issued with a PVA approval letter to give to Cairnmillar authorising them to issue you with an eCoE. You will be also advised to pay the tuition fees and OSHC premium, and undergo medical tests. The student visa will be granted when the Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) and all other requirements are satisfied. |
The application fee of AUD$150 is not refundable. A copy of the circumstances, the processes and procedures of Cairnmillar’s refund policy can be found by clicking here
Cairnmillar does not have any formal arrangements with education agents in Australia or overseas.
Cairnmillar does not enrol any international students who are under 18 years of age.
Scholarships
The John Waters Memorial Scholarship
The John Waters Memorial Scholarship commemorates a man of great generosity and humanity. His death brought much sadness to many people. Mrs. Gwen Waters joined with Cairnmillar to provide a scholarship to a psychologist or psychotherapist from another country, for advanced training at Cairnmillar. The Scholarship provides funding to cover the costs of one year’s advanced training at Cairnmillar. The Scholarship is one of the highest funded awards for a psychologist. Such a concept is a fitting memorial to John Waters, whose care and concern quietly reached across many boundaries. Scholarship recipients have come from Turkey, Hungary, Columbia and Romania.
